The master’s program in film music „Music Composition for Film, Games, and Media“ lasts one year and concludes with the university diploma „Master of Music / Master of Arts.“
This program builds on a previously completed music degree and offers these well-trained musicians the opportunity to create a film score for a fictional film and a composition with an orchestra. Additionally, the student has the opportunity to delve into a specific topic and engage with it compositionally.
The film project is conducted with students from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Each of the master’s students works with one of the master’s students from LMU to create the film music for the graduation films of the postgraduate film students. This provides an excellent networking opportunity and a field for practical experience.
The orchestral recordings take place with a professional orchestra. In doing so, the students learn all the nuances of live recordings and thus expand their repertoire for future projects.
The film music program „Master of Music Composition for Film, Games, and Media“ offers musicians with a completed music degree the opportunity to specialize in a self-chosen thematic area.
The study goal is individually chosen by the student, and specialization is explicitly encouraged. In addition to the individual theme, each student works on their own film project with a master’s directing student from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. Additionally, each student has access to an orchestral session with a film music orchestra.
To ensure that the foundations for working as a film composer are in place, it is recommended to attend the preparatory course „Advanced Film Scoring and Production.“
